SURRON Light Bee 2 L3 – 24kW Road-Legal Light Bee Performance

The SURRON Light Bee 2 L3 takes the performance, technology and lightweight construction of the new-generation Light Bee 2 and makes it ready for the road. Producing an extraordinary 24kW maximum power and 410Nm of maximum wheel torque, the L3 accelerates from 0–31mph in just 1.8 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 56mph. Yet even with its dedicated road equipment, it weighs only 68kg. Mirrors, indicators, rear lighting, registration-plate mounting and a 2,100-lumen LED headlight transform the Light Bee 2 into a road-equipped machine without losing the compact dimensions, low weight and agility that define the Light Bee. This isn’t simply an original Light Bee with road equipment added. A semi-solid-state battery, advanced motor controller, seven riding modes, traction control, IMU-based Wheelie Control, adjustable regenerative braking, full-colour TFT display, cruise control and smartphone connectivity make the Light Bee 2 L3 an entirely new generation of road-legal SURRON.

24kW Maximum Power

At the centre of the Light Bee 2 L3 is a high-output Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) producing up to 24kW. That is accompanied by an enormous 410Nm of maximum torque at the wheel. An advanced MTPA/MTPV FOC controller continuously manages motor output, helping deliver the instant response expected from a powerful electric motorcycle while maintaining smooth and predictable control. A three-level adjustable throttle response allows the rider to further tailor power delivery to road conditions, terrain and personal preference.

Combining 24kW with a remarkably low 68kg kerb weight gives the Light Bee 2 L3 exceptional acceleration.

Road Legal Light Bee 2

The key distinction between the Light Bee 2 L3 and Light Bee 2 X is that the L3 is the dedicated road-legal model. SURRON equips it with the equipment required for road use, including:

• Registration-plate mounting
• 2,100-lumen LED headlight

Despite the additional equipment, the L3 weighs only 68kg – just 3kg more than the off-road Light Bee 2 X.

78.54V Semi-Solid-State Battery

The new-generation powertrain is supplied by a 78.54V 45Ah semi-solid-state battery providing 3.53kWh of energy capacity. SURRON publishes two official range figures:

• Up to 99 miles / 160km at 15.5mph (25km/h)
• Up to 67 miles / 108km at 24.9mph (40km/h)

Actual range will naturally vary according to speed, rider weight, terrain, gradients, temperature, riding mode, acceleration and other operating conditions.

Fast Charging

The Light Bee 2 L3 has been designed to get riders back on the move without excessive charging times.

• 20–80%: approximately 2 hours
• 0–100%: approximately 4 hours

Seven Riding Modes

The Light Bee 2 L3 offers an unusually comprehensive selection of riding modes: E / D / S / M / T / R / L Rather than providing only basic economy and performance choices, the expanded selection allows the Light Bee 2’s behaviour to be adapted to different riding situations. The three-level adjustable throttle provides further control over the motorcycle’s response.

SURRON Traction Control

With 410Nm available at the rear wheel, intelligent control becomes particularly important. The Light Bee 2 L3 therefore incorporates SURRON Traction Control, helping manage power when available grip changes. It’s particularly relevant to a road-going machine where conditions can vary considerably between dry tarmac, wet roads and loose or contaminated surfaces.

Two-Level SURRON Wheelie Control

The Light Bee 2 L3 also features two-level SURRON Wheelie Control. An IMU monitors the motorcycle’s pitch angle in real time and coordinates motor output within milliseconds. Two selectable assistance levels allow the rider to adjust the amount of intervention according to experience and riding conditions.

Advanced Regenerative Braking

The regenerative braking system goes considerably beyond a simple fixed regeneration setting. The Light Bee 2 L3 provides:

• 5 levels of coasting energy recovery
• 5 levels of braking energy recovery
• Dedicated RBS regenerative-brake trigger

The dedicated RBS trigger provides regenerative braking on demand, helping the rider manage speed while returning recovered energy to the battery.

Cruise Control

Another particularly useful road feature is cruise control. SURRON specifies cruise-control operation at speeds above 10km/h, reducing the need to maintain constant throttle input when conditions allow.

Auto Hold

Auto Hold provides additional convenience when the motorcycle is stationary, complementing the Light Bee 2 L3’s expanding collection of road-focused electronic features.

SURRON VISION Full-Colour TFT Display

The Light Bee 2 L3 uses the new SURRON VISION full-colour TFT display. It provides a modern interface for the motorcycle’s riding information and sophisticated electronic systems, giving the new Light Bee a cockpit appropriate for its much more advanced specification.

SURRON App Connectivity

An integrated T-Box connects the Light Bee 2 L3 with the SURRON smartphone app. Officially supported functions include:

• Location services
• Vehicle diagnostics
• Riding-mode customisation
• OTA updates

OTA capability means compatible software updates can be delivered electronically as SURRON develops the connected platform.

One-Piece Forged Aluminium Frame

A one-piece forged aluminium-alloy frame provides the structural foundation for the Light Bee 2 L3. The compact, centralised construction combines strength and rigidity with exceptionally low weight, contributing to predictable handling while keeping the complete road-equipped motorcycle to just 68kg.

215mm Front and 220mm Rear-Wheel Travel

The Light Bee’s trail heritage hasn’t disappeared simply because the L3 is road legal. The front fork provides 215mm of travel, while an 85mm rear shock delivers 220mm of rear-wheel travel. That substantial suspension movement gives the Light Bee 2 L3 the ability to deal with broken road surfaces and changing terrain while maintaining the long-travel character associated with the Light Bee platform.

19-Inch Front and 18-Inch Rear Wheels

The Light Bee 2 L3 uses the same purposeful staggered wheel sizes associated with the new platform:
